So you’ve bought your new home, or are waiting for the completion of your build, what’s next? Planning out your interior design!
The best ways to make your house feel like a home is by adding your own touch of personality and flare to its home decor. At the same time, you want your home looking up-to-date and on trend. Because nobody likes living in an outdated house, right?
You don’t necessarily need an interior designer to glam up your home. With the likes of Pinterest, Instagram, and other home decor websites, it’s easy to get some design inspiration.
When it comes to interior design, there are trends that come and go, but there are always a few that have remained classic and never seem to go out of style.
Here are our five interior design trends to try out on your new home!
1. Mix of Textures
When picking out items for your new home, take into account the textures of the materials. It’s always great to play with contrasting textures, to add visual interest to your decor. Mix wood, metal, leather and fibres. Try mixing up your wooden floors with natural bamboo rugs, or wooden shelves with metal ornaments. Get creative - there are so many combinations you can work with!
2. Metals
When used well, metal can look classy, and timeless. It’s also been trending more and more in recent years, especially in the kitchen, bathtubs, chandeliers, lamps, and other ornaments.
3. False skins
False skins are another classic trend that can add great interest to a room, mainly in the form of sofas, chairs, carpets, rugs, and cushions. Natural skins can be very beautiful, but look much better on live and happy animals, so try opting for false skins!
4. Light or very dark woods
The trend of honey-toned woods have been gaining ground in recent years, and the trend is very much likely to continue. Oak and cherry woods are also very good options, both in design, durability, and aesthetics.
The earthy tones and the dark woods trend have also made a comeback, which can add a trendy edge to your home.
5. Modern carpets & rugs
A perfectly designed and decorated room completely changes our mood, allowing us to relax and have fun. A great element of interior decoration are carpets. For spacious rooms and rectangular rooms, the basic carpets in neutral colour are perfect.
If you start with a neutral carpet as a base, then you can combine it with a patterned carpet following the style of the furniture. Jute rugs are perfect for this!
Now that you know there trends buzzing in the interior design world, it’s time to incorporate them into your home!
